Evaluation of Cementing Efficiency of Flyash in Concrete

چکیده

-The simple replacement technique of cement by fly ash in concrete does not produce a concrete with desirable early strength which is a significant parameter of present day emphasis of speedier construction. Increasing the amount of flyash replacement slows down the strength development at early ages. For effective mix proportioning of fly ash concrete, cementing efficiency factor has to be taken in consideration. Cementing efficiency factor is number of parts of cement that can be efficiently replaced by one part of the flyash without changing strength in concrete. It depends on age of concrete and percentage of cement replacement. In this paper the cementing -efficiency factor k of fly ash is evaluated and applied to fly ash concrete mix design method by Smith. Using the k value, an attempt for the design for the fly ash concrete with different percentages of fly ash replacement is made. It was observed that by using the k value, there is no need to accept the loss of early strength at different replacement levels.
